Digging up an old thread. Haha, gold. At least the LSDs work(ed). Yet to see how mine goes yet. Also, SaveVid dot com.

Speaking of old, and LSD...

I recently read about "LSDs in manuals" being a myth. However I think that referred to NZ, else maybe pre-4CZ1-t else non-Australian Piazzas.
It is my understanding that that Aussie Piazza's (1986 4ZC1-t) were LSD is manual, and open diff if auto.
And I'm pretty sure that was info from my Guru. (Of course, transplants may have occurred since.)

But transplant the crown & pinion into a Jackaroo or Rodeo pre-4ZE1 LSD and the problem is solved anyway.

What's the ratio like in those cars though? ;)

Put it this way, if I jack the rear wheels on my Piazza and turn them, they turn the same direction - however, leave one on the ground, and it's still quite easy to turn the other wheel. I'm guessing a factory Piazza LSD would be a constant clutch pack (not load-activated) so it sounds like mine will need shimming pretty seriously.. But oh well!

Unless my diff is shagged, I'd support the "manual = LSD, auto = open" theory! Vinnie's has an auto diff and it doesn't show any signs whatsoever of an LSD.. heh.

The "trucks" (Jacks & Rodeos) are 4.55:1.
That's why I said to transplant the crown & pinion. (I'm getting a 5.125 ratio!)

The LSDs I've felt rotate both free wheels (as do seized diffs!) and are difficult to rotate with one grounded wheel. (Or is that an earthed wheel down under?)

Heheh, grounded indeed. I did consider the possibility that the diff could just be shagged. I'm doing the only wise thing, and ignoring that possibility altogether until the car's driving :laughing6:

You might be right that the plates are worn etc.

If redone, I'd consider fixing and increasing their setting (is it 75% for road use & 85% for race?), but with that comes the extra caution...
I have only had torque-steer problems twice (in what - 3 years with the Wasp LSD?) - both on the SAME roundabout (a tight local job; both in the wet; both just "lazing" around the RH turn with low RPM).

Mind you, I wanted the LSD as a way of extracting myself with one wheel in the air, or in total bogs. I didn't realise I wanted a Torsen diff or an Aussie Locker.
However, despite its limited NON-slip, it has certainly helped to avoid bogs and air-hangs. And it is certainly faster out of corners (if only the G200W Florian had it, but now that I know what the Florian diff is...)

And I guess you got the earthing-grounding.
I have that problem on my yank electrical forum postings - they have car grounds etc, we earth (or IMO, "chassis").
As to AC grounds and earths - especially when referring to dc-ac inverters or generators and their output "earth" (meaning output earth-neutral pin bond) as opposed to actually earthing them to a ground stake... (But I don't discuss that with Aussies - too many dickheads (despite Australia being the first with that arrangement!).)
